It follows Shrove Tuesday. In church services, the faithful receive an ash cross on their foreheads, usually with the words: \u201eRemember, man, that you are dust and will return to dust\u201c or \u201eRepent and believe in the Gospel.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The ashes symbolise transience, reflection and new beginnings. Many people use this time to consciously fast, rethink their habits or focus more on their faith. Ash Wednesday therefore symbolises repentance, inner cleansing and preparation for Easter.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>From the abbot's sermon:<\/strong><\/span><br \/><strong>Live the gospel of Jesus Christ, whatever you have understood, no matter how little, but live
