On peut consid\u00e9rer comme certain que la petite troupe de moines de Salzbourg, qui a commenc\u00e9 la vie monastique \u00e0 Admont \u00e0 l'automne 1074, a d\u00e9j\u00e0 apport\u00e9 un stock de base de livres du monast\u00e8re m\u00e8re de Saint-Pierre. A cela s'ajoutent des dons de livres tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9coces de la part du fondateur du monast\u00e8re, l'archev\u00eaque Gebhard de Salzbourg.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">En premier lieu, il faut citer cette Bible g\u00e9ante en trois volumes datant des environs de 1070, que le fondateur du monast\u00e8re a lui-m\u00eame remise \u00e0 sa fondation pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e, Admont. De la m\u00eame \u00e9poque date un \u00e9vang\u00e9liaire aux enluminures somptueusement d\u00e9cor\u00e9es. \u00c0 partir du milieu du 12e si\u00e8cle, l'abbaye d'Admont disposait de son propre atelier d'\u00e9criture (scriptorium), dans lequel de nombreux livres \u00e9taient produits, tant pour ses propres besoins que pour ceux d'autres monast\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">Vers 1300, l'abb\u00e9 Engelbert, sans doute l'\u00e9rudit le plus polyvalent de l'histoire de l'abbaye, a augment\u00e9 le stock de livres avec un grand nombre de ses propres ouvrages. Apr\u00e8s l'invention de l'imprimerie, le nombre d'ouvrages a augment\u00e9 de fa\u00e7on spectaculaire. Dans sa r\u00e8gle, saint Beno\u00eet a d\u00e9sign\u00e9 la Bible comme la \"Bibliotheca\" par excellence. Autour de ce noyau de la biblioth\u00e8que du monast\u00e8re s'est rapidement d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e une imposante collection de codex. Certains d'entre eux ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crits dans le propre scriptorium, d'autres ont \u00e9t\u00e9 acquis par don, \u00e9change ou achat.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"info info--info\">\n<p>D\u00e8s la \"r\u00e9forme d'Admont\" au XIIe si\u00e8cle, on peut distinguer les contours clairs d'une \"biblioth\u00e8que universelle\" : Outre un grand nombre d'ouvrages th\u00e9ologiques et historiographiques, on trouvait d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 l'\u00e9poque quelques \u00e9crits importants d'auteurs de l'Antiquit\u00e9 \"pa\u00efenne\", ainsi que de la litt\u00e9rature d'histoire naturelle et des ouvrages majeurs de jurisprudence.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">Par la suite, ce fonds s'est consid\u00e9rablement enrichi dans tous les domaines cit\u00e9s et a \u00e9t\u00e9 compl\u00e9t\u00e9 par des ouvrages de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence, des \u00e9crits philosophiques et surtout des livres de m\u00e9decine, de sorte que la biblioth\u00e8que couvrit bient\u00f4t aussi bien le spectre des \"arts lib\u00e9raux\" que celui des facult\u00e9s classiques. La collection de livres d'Admont, bien fournie, mettait ainsi \u00e0 disposition une partie consid\u00e9rable du savoir qui, sinon, n'\u00e9tait accessible que dans les centres de formation de la ville.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"heading-m line line-above line--gold\">La diversit\u00e9 de la \"nouvelle\" biblioth\u00e8que dans le miroir de l'\"ancienne\" biblioth\u00e8que<\/h5>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">La biblioth\u00e8que m\u00e9di\u00e9vale anticipe d\u00e9j\u00e0, par ses contenus principaux, la r\u00e9partition th\u00e9matique des tr\u00e9sors de livres modernes dans la grande salle de la biblioth\u00e8que. Dans la biblioth\u00e8que du 18\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, le syst\u00e8me de rangement des livres se fait dans trois salles partielles. L\u00e0, le vaste fonds d'ouvrages imprim\u00e9s est divis\u00e9 en treize sections. En comparaison avec le nombre de codex m\u00e9di\u00e9vaux, il est presque cent fois plus important. Les vitrines de la \"salle des manuscrits\", \u00e9galement compos\u00e9e de trois pi\u00e8ces, sont dimensionn\u00e9es de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 pouvoir y exposer autant de livres.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">Dans la salle de l'aile sud, on trouve six groupes de fonds issus des domaines de connaissances \"profanes\" : M\u00e9decine, sciences naturelles et histoire mondiale, ainsi que droit civil, classiques et ouvrages de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence. Dans la salle de l'aile nord se trouvent les livres de cinq disciplines th\u00e9ologiques : droit canonique, litt\u00e9rature \u00e9difiante et sermons ainsi qu'histoire de l'\u00c9glise et doctrine syst\u00e9matique de la foi. Les ouvrages bibliques et les \u00e9ditions des P\u00e8res de l'Eglise, plac\u00e9s dans la salle centrale, sont bien entendu en relation avec ces
