Un incendie se d\u00e9clare dans un b\u00e2timent d'exploitation au c\u0153ur d'Admont et se propage rapidement aux b\u00e2timents voisins et \u00e0 l'abbaye b\u00e9n\u00e9dictine.20 maisons, une grande partie de l'abbaye contenant des \u0153uvres d'art et des objets d'ameublement inestimables sont la proie des flammes, plusieurs habitants trouvent la mort. La biblioth\u00e8que, c\u00e9l\u00e8bre dans le monde entier, est toutefois largement \u00e9pargn\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">Aujourd'hui, 159 ans plus tard, l'abbaye b\u00e9n\u00e9dictine d'Admont propose des visites guid\u00e9es sp\u00e9ciales sur la catastrophe de l'incendie. La constatation d'un chapitre de l'abbaye de l'\u00e9poque semble particuli\u00e8rement \u00e9mouvante : \"Aujourd'hui, le 28 avril, Admont n'existe plus. Tout a \u00e9t\u00e9 ras\u00e9, sauf la biblioth\u00e8que...\".<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">Archiviste de l'abbaye<strong>\u00a0P. Maximilian Schieferm\u00fcller OSB<\/strong>\u00a0d\u00e9crit la catastrophe dans son livre \"Der Brand von 1865 und der Neubau des Steirischen Benediktinerstifts Admont\". L'auteur cite \u00e9galement un t\u00e9moin oculaire de l'incendie, le p\u00e8re Blitmund Tschurtschenthaler. \"En peu de temps, les deux rang\u00e9es de maisons, depuis le milieu du march\u00e9 jusqu'\u00e0 l'\u00e9glise abbatiale, ainsi que l'ancienne \u00e9glise Saint-Amand, furent envelopp\u00e9es dans une mer de feu... Soudain, le cri de terreur retentit : l'abbaye est en feu\".<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">Le bilan apr\u00e8s le chaos de l'incendie : apr\u00e8s 5 jours d'incendie, la biblioth\u00e8que, la salle capitulaire, le nouveau b\u00e2timent et les sacristies sont rest\u00e9s presque intacts. Le couvent a tr\u00e8s vite opt\u00e9 pour un \"nouvel Admont\". Pour ce faire, les vestiges des b\u00e2timents m\u00e9di\u00e9vaux et baroques furent ras\u00e9s et l'on choisit pour l'\u00e9glise abbatiale le n\u00e9ogothique comme style architectural contemporain. La biblioth\u00e8que et la salle capitulaire de style baroque primitif furent laiss\u00e9es en l'\u00e9tat, dans un style \"baroque ridicule\" - Dieu merci.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">En 1868, la nouvelle \u00e9glise coll\u00e9giale a d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 consacr\u00e9e.
