Il suit le carnaval. Lors des services religieux, les fid\u00e8les re\u00e7oivent une croix de cendres sur le front, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement accompagn\u00e9e des mots suivants : \u201eSouviens-toi, homme, que tu es poussi\u00e8re et que tu retourneras \u00e0 la poussi\u00e8re\u201c ou \u201eConvertis-toi et crois en l'\u00c9vangile\u201c.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Les cendres symbolisent l'\u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re, le recueillement et un nouveau d\u00e9part. De nombreuses personnes profitent de cette p\u00e9riode pour je\u00fbner consciemment, reconsid\u00e9rer leurs habitudes ou se concentrer davantage sur leur foi. Le mercredi des Cendres est donc synonyme de repentir, de purification int\u00e9rieure et de pr\u00e9paration \u00e0 la f\u00eate de P\u00e2ques.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span
