Un incendie d\u00e9vastateur avait alors d\u00e9truit une grande partie du march\u00e9 et de l'abbaye, co\u00fbtant la vie \u00e0 des personnes et d\u00e9truisant de pr\u00e9cieux tr\u00e9sors artistiques - la biblioth\u00e8que de l'abbaye, c\u00e9l\u00e8bre dans le monde entier, avait toutefois \u00e9t\u00e9 en grande partie \u00e9pargn\u00e9e. 159 ans plus tard, des rapports impressionnants et des sources historiques rappellent cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement. Archiviste de l'abbaye<strong>\u00a0P. Maximilian Schieferm\u00fcller OSB<\/strong>\u00a0d\u00e9crit la catastrophe dans son livre \"Der Brand von 1865 und der Neubau des Steirischen Benediktinerstifts Admont\". L'auteur cite \u00e9galement un t\u00e9moin oculaire de l'incendie, le p\u00e8re Blitmund Tschurtschenthaler. \"En peu de temps, les deux rang\u00e9es de maisons, depuis le milieu du march\u00e9 jusqu'\u00e0 l'\u00e9glise abbatiale, ainsi que l'ancienne \u00e9glise Saint-Amand, furent envelopp\u00e9es dans une mer de feu...
