Un incendio scoppia in un edificio agricolo nel centro di Admont e si propaga rapidamente agli edifici vicini e al monastero benedettino.20 case, ampie parti del monastero con opere d'arte e arredi di valore inestimabile vengono distrutte dalle fiamme e diversi abitanti rimangono uccisi. Tuttavia, la biblioteca, famosa in tutto il mondo, viene in gran parte risparmiata.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">Oggi, 159 anni dopo, l'Abbazia benedettina di Admont offre visite speciali al disastro dell'incendio. Particolarmente emozionante appare la dichiarazione di un canonico dell'epoca: \"Oggi, 28 aprile, Admont non esiste pi\u00f9. Tutto \u00e8 stato bruciato, tranne la biblioteca...\".<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">Archivista dell'Abbazia<strong>\u00a0P. Maximilian Schieferm\u00fcller OSB<\/strong>\u00a0descrive la catastrofe nel suo libro \"Der Brand von 1865 und der Neubau des steirischen Benediktinerstiftes Admont\". L'autore cita anche un testimone oculare dell'incendio, don Blitmund Tschurtschenthaler. \"In breve tempo, entrambe le file di case dal centro del mercato alla collegiata e anche la vecchia chiesa di Amandus furono avvolte da un mare di fuoco... Improvvisamente risuon\u00f2 il grido di terrore: Il monastero sta bruciando!\".<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">L'esito dell'incendio fu caotico: dopo 5 giorni di fuoco, la biblioteca, la sala capitolare, il nuovo edificio e le sacrestie rimasero quasi intatti. Il convento decise molto rapidamente di costruire un \"nuovo Admont\". A tal fine, i resti degli edifici medievali e barocchi furono demoliti e lo stile neogotico fu scelto come stile architettonico contemporaneo per la collegiata. La biblioteca e la sala capitolare del primo barocco furono lasciate nello stile \"barocco sciocco\" - grazie al cielo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-m\">La nuova chiesa collegiata fu consacrata nel
