Review of the Scientific Evening at Admont Abbey!
Yesterday we celebrated the successful completion of a special project: after ten years, all medieval and modern manuscripts in the Abbey Library have been digitised!
The lecture evening offered exciting… insights into the history of our library and presented selected treasures from the digitised collection. An important milestone for science and culture - we would like to thank everyone involved!

Special exhibits from the natural history collection
These two magnificent specimens - the Geoffroyus rhodops from Amboina and the Javanese horned ray (Eurylaimus javanicus) from Malacca - are part of the collections of the Natural History Museum Admont (inv. no. 29035 and 29064). In the …During the Nazi era, many valuable natural history exhibits from the abbey's collections had to be handed over to the then "Gaumuseum" Joanneum in Graz.
The first objects were returned in 1948, and some objects were only returned a few years ago. The two bird specimens summarise this. They can be seen in the special exhibition, which focuses not only on the abbey's heyday but also on the many times when its existence was threatened.

Ulli travelled to the guru of apple grafting - the one and only Christian Weißensteiner, better known as "der Veitlbauer". Apple guru, …Cider whisperer, juicer - and also a cider sommelier with heart, soul and probably apple seeds in his blood. Back in the kitchen, there was no spilling, but tempting baking: baked apple wheels with vanilla ice cream - a sweet treat that will soften even the most hardened sugar denier.

Gebhardstag 2025 - In the footsteps of our founder 🙏
Today we celebrated Gebhard's Day, the memorial day in honour of our founder, Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg, who founded Admont Abbey in 1074! An important anniversary that not only reminds us of our roots, …but also the foresight with which Gebhard established spiritual and cultural life in the region. A particular highlight were the traditional star pilgrimages - believers and guests from Hall, Frauenberg and Ardning made the pilgrimage to Admont on foot. A visible sign of solidarity, faith and community that keeps the spirit of Gebhard alive.
We look back on over 950 years of history with gratitude and awe - and look forward with confidence.
