Lute Autumn 2024

10th Admonter Lautenherbst

10th Admonter Lautenherbst

04 - 08 September 2024

In this jubilee autumn of lutes, three extraordinary concerts have been able to inspire an interested audience.

The Opening concert "The teachers do the honours" on 04 September in the Amandus Church, which offers the best acoustic conditions for chamber music ensembles, was an unrivalled highlight. The concert programme was very diverse and varied, performed by the six lecturers with the highest musical standards, and presented the wide range of the "early music" genre. In various formations, from solo recitals on the baroque guitar, theorbo and viola da gamba to art songs from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and a four-part vocal ensemble accompanied by viola da gamba, lute and theorbo.

The CASULANA CONSORT on 06 September put THE icing on the cake of the lute autumn. Three enchanting lutenists from Basel, performing on treble, alto, tenor and bass lutes, together with the magnificent Evangelina Mascardi, who stood in for Cornelia Demmer, transported the large audience to lute-consort heaven with their playful virtuosity and supreme female vocal artistry.

At the Final concert on 08 September ALL "learners" and their teachers were able to fill the collegiate church with a cloud of sound. Renaissance art songs accompanied by lutes, consort song formations with six viols and six voices and traditional Latin American compositions from the Baroque period for choir, lutes, viols and percussion visibly and audibly delighted the large audience. The Lute Autumn not only enriched Admont musically, but also kept the catering trade on its toes. A big thank you to Gasthof Buchner, because in times like these, freshly cooked food at a late hour is much appreciated.

Admont Abbey, led by Abbot Gerhard Hafner, supports the Admont Lautenherbst in EVERY respect, without this help it would not be possible to achieve this level of success. Many, many thanks also to the municipality of Admont and the province of Styria!
