History and art
Around 1150, a church was built in honour of St Gallus. Between 1515 and 1523, the church was rebuilt in late Gothic style by the master builder Bernhard Polhaymer.
Between 1736 and 1740, the church was extended in Baroque style according to plans by master builder Jakob Prandtauer. In the centre of the late Baroque high altar is the painting of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary by Martin Johann Schmidt (1782), known as Kremser-Schmidt.
