Cordial invitation to the harvest festival at Admont Abbey

A celebration of gratitude and community

On Sunday, 12 October 2025, the Benedictine Abbey of Admont cordially invites you to its traditional harvest festival. In the midst of the autumn-coloured landscape of the Gesäuse, this special day is a celebration full of gratitude, lively community and culinary delights.

A festival with a long tradition

The celebrations begin at 09:30 with Holy Mass in the collegiate church, together with the local population. The harvest festival has its roots in early Christianity and reminds us not to take the abundance of the harvest and the gifts of nature for granted, but to see them as a gift.

A particularly moving moment will be the Farewell to Albert Wonaschütz, long-time director of the Admont church choir, be. With great commitment and musical passion, he has enriched church life for many years.

Abbot Gerhard Hafner emphasises:

"We would like to say a big thank you to Mr Albert Wonaschütz for his commitment in recent years and, of course, for this year's harvest and grape harvest."

He also refers to the abbey's wine festival taking place at the same time - another highlight of the day.

Programme highlights of the festive day:

  • Holy Mass with solemn farewell to Albert Wonaschütz
  • Agape after the service organised by the market town of Admont
  • Culinary delicacies from the region
  • Wine tasting with fine wines from the Dveri Pax winery, the traditional winery of the monastery in Slovenia
  • Desserts from the Stiftskeller
