Admont Abbey Library is one of the most beautiful libraries in the world - nominated by the international Instagram community
The world's largest monastery library in Admont Abbey in Styria has been nominated as one of the 10 most beautiful libraries in the world by the renowned Instagram community 1000libraries with over 1.2 million followers. The international community can vote for their favourites in an online poll until 15 July.
Following the media hype surrounding the baroque jewel in recent years, this is another special honour for Admont Abbey. Back in 2021, the book club of US talk show icon Oprah Winfrey highlighted the library as a travel tip - an appearance that triggered a worldwide media response and also ensured an increase in visitor numbers.
"We regularly host influencers from all over the world who publish videos of the library with millions of views. Just recently there were visitors from New York who travelled to Austria especially for the library," reports Mario Brandmüller, economic director of Admont Abbey Museum and PR manager.
Prior Father Maximilian Schiefermüller, librarian of the monastery, is also delighted: "I am very pleased about the nomination. It shows the international importance of the Admont library."
The library at Admont Abbey is not only the largest monastery library in the world, but also one of the most impressive of its kind - a place that unites culture, history and aesthetics in a unique way. The current nomination is part of a series of international accolades and once again emphasises the importance of the building as a cultural landmark.
