Deacon ordination of Fr Josef Beer O.S.B. and Fr Petrus Dreyhaupt O.S.B.

"God has chosen you today to be deacons"With these words, Diocesan Bishop Wilhelm Krautwaschl welcomed the candidates for the diaconate Frater Josef Beer and Frater Petrus Dreyhaupt. On 29 September 2024, exactly 950 years after the consecration of the first collegiate church and thus the foundation of the Benedictine monastery of Admont, he conferred the sacrament of deacon ordination on them in the collegiate church. - With this ordination, the Admont Benedictines became "Fathers" (Fr.).
P. Josef Beer, born on 14 September 1986, grew up in Rein. He entered the Benedictine monastery in Seckau and began his theological studies in Heiligenkreuz. The desire to become active in pastoral care led him to ask for admission to Admont. Fr Josef works as a pastoral intern in the Admont and Eisenwurzen pastoral areas (SSR).
P. Petrus Dreyhaupt, born on 5 November 1996, was born in Bremen. After a period at the Benedictine monastery in Göttweig, Fr Peter asked to be admitted to Admont. Fr Petrus completed his doctorate in theology in Salzburg. He teaches religion at the abbey grammar school with great commitment. He works as a pastoral intern in the SSR Liesingtal and in Trieben, St. Lorenzen and Hohentauern.
In his sermon, the bishop emphasised the importance of listening: "Listen", the first word of the Rule of St. Benedict, is the key to life in the monastery and as a deacon. It is important to hear and live the word of God in order to be able to proclaim it.
The celebration that the two new deacons enjoyed with their confreres, family, friends and Christians from the collegiate parishes will hopefully continue on 18 May 2025, when they are ordained as priests: You will begin, God will complete: Since their foundation, the Admont Benedictines have carried in their hearts what was first said to their founder Archbishop Gebhard! Surely God himself will complete the work that he has begun with every human being!
