Father Vinzenz (baptismal name: Erwin Thomas) Schager OSB was born on 24 December 1993 in Leoben and grew up in Göß. After his first communion, he began serving as an altar boy in the parish church of St Andrew in Göß and thus grew into parish life. He was also active as a sacristan, church leader and parish councillor. After completing lower secondary school at the Neues Gymnasium in Leoben, he moved to Graz and lived for three years at the Bischöfliches Seminar/Augustinum and then for two years in the residential community for vocation pastoral care. After completing his A-levels and community service, he applied for admission to the Benedictine community of Admont, which he was granted. In February 2016, he made his temporary profession and began studying Catholic theology at the University of Salzburg. On the Solemnity of the monastery's patron saint, St Blasius, 3 February 2019, Fr Vincent made his solemn (perpetual) vows into the hands of Abbot Gerhard Hafner OSB. In March 2021, Fr Vincent successfully completed his theological studies and was ordained a deacon on 21 March by Bishop Wilhelm Krautwaschl.

Fr Vincent chose as his motto for his first Mass: Tu inchoabis, Deus consummabit. You shall begin, God will finish. (Archbishop Gebhard)
