Exclusive special tour and workshop on 6 February 2026
On 6 February 2026, Admont Abbey invites you to an extraordinary special tour and workshop that brings music history to life. Under the title „Musical Treasures from the Abbey Archive“, interested visitors will gain unique insights into the Abbey Archive's important collection of handwritten music - a cultural heritage of great historical and artistic value.
The afternoon lecture will be given by Dr Ikarus Kaiser, musicologist at Wilhering Abbey, who has been entrusted with the scientific cataloguing of these holdings in recent years. In his lecture, he will provide in-depth insights into the origins, significance and special features of the historical sheet music and present selected individual pieces from the archive that are otherwise not accessible to the public.
A particular highlight of the event is the practical approach to music: the works presented should not only be viewed, but also heard and experienced. Instrumental pieces will be performed and - at the request of the participants - selected vocal pieces will be tried out together. This will create a direct link between the archive, research and musical practice.
Father Prior Maximilian Schiefermüller OSB, Head of the Abbey Archive and Library of Admont Abbey and scientific director of the museum, emphasises the importance of this access:
„The musical manuscripts in the Abbey Archive are not only historical documents, but also testimonies to living culture and spirituality. When these works are heard again, an essential part of our cultural heritage can be experienced directly. This event invites you not only to look at history, but to experience it with all your senses.“
The event is aimed at music lovers, choir singers, musicians, students and anyone who is interested in the rich cultural heritage of Admont Abbey.
