Spirodom

New owner and operator for the Hotel Spirodom

Thomas Nebl takes over from 1 February 2026

A strong commitment to the region: with experience, vision and regional roots, the Spirodom is embarking on a new future.

On 1 February 2026, the experienced accommodation entrepreneur Thomas Nebl will take over the renowned Hotel Spirodom in Admont. Nebl purchased the hotel complex from the Benedictine monastery in Admont - a significant step that further strengthens the further development of tourism in the Gesäuse.

Thomas Nebl is no stranger to the region: He has been running the completely revitalised former Kirchenwirt in Weng (known as Xeis NeSt) and the National Park Pavilion in Gstatterboden with great success for several years. Both establishments are regarded as prime examples of innovative, authentic and economically stable hospitality in the Gesäuse National Park.

The latest state statistics also confirm the trend: Styria continues to be one of Austria's most popular year-round destinations - with significant increases in overnight stays in the Gesäuse as well. The Spirodom, as the only hotel in this quality and performance class in the region, therefore has exceptionally high growth potential. Its location is unique: embedded in the impressive natural scenery of the Gesäuse National Park and just a few steps away from the cultural centrepiece of the region - the Benedictine Abbey of Admont with its diverse museum landscape and the world's largest monastery library, which is one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. The Benedictine Abbey of Admont welcomes around 65,000 visitors every year - an impressive audience that also harbours enormous potential for future overnight stays. The same applies to the steadily growing number of seminar guests who are looking for perfect conditions for events and find an ideal complement in the Spirodom.

Thomas Nebl on his decision: „I took this step because I have known the hotel for years and have always appreciated its special charisma. The Spirodom has enormous potential - especially if it is managed regionally, with heart, passion and in-depth knowledge of the region. It is clear to me that successful tourism is the result of close co-operation, mutual support and a genuine commitment to the region. I am very grateful to the Benedictine Abbey of Admont for the trust it has placed in me with the purchase and takeover of this important establishment. This trust is both an incentive and an obligation for me to lead the Spirodom into a successful future.“

The Benedictine Abbey of Admont is also highly satisfied with this solution.

Franz Pichler, Economic Director of Admont Abbey: „We are delighted to have found a competent, regionally anchored and extremely committed new owner and operator in Mr Nebl. We see the regional roots as a great added value. We are looking forward to a successful collaboration and will support Mr Nebl in all possible areas - in the interests of the hotel and for the good of the entire region.“

Nebl is not initially planning any immediate changes. The first few months will be used for intensive familiarisation, observation and evaluation. After that, room renovations, an expansion of the restaurant, optimisations in the wellness area and further quality improvements are planned.

Numerous ideas, visions and new accents should ensure even more customer-orientation in the future. Hikers and nature lovers should feel even more welcome in the future, as the Spirodom wants to further expand its role as the ideal starting point for nature experiences in the Gesäuse.

Thomas Nebl would also like to say a special thank you to 1912 Hotel GmbH, which has run the Hotel Spirodom with great commitment to date.

Nebl is also open to cooperation and collaboration in the future in order to further strengthen the quality of tourism in the region.

„Of course, there were a lot of strategic considerations behind this - it wasn't a spontaneous decision. But I am convinced that with a clear concept, regional cooperation and a strong team, we can develop the Spirodom into a strong, forward-looking driving force for tourism in the Gesäuse,“ says Nebl.

The Hotel Spirodom is thus entering a new era that combines tradition, quality and regional strength - and promises great potential for the future.
