P. Vinzenz Schager OSB ordained priest
Sunday, 4 July 2021
Diocesan Bishop Wilhelm Krautwaschl came to the Benedictine monastery in Admont for the first time - a "premiere" - to administer the sacrament of priestly ordination: The date was the afternoon of 4 July, and the candidate for ordination was Deacon Fr Vinzenz Schager. Abbot Gerhard Hafner and our monastic community were able to witness the ordination together with the new priest's family, friends and acquaintances. In his sermon, the bishop responded to the candidate's request for Greek: he explained the priestly ministry with the help of words from the Letter to the Hebrews. Despite a long break in rehearsals, the Admont church choir gave a perfect performance of the Missa in C major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. After the words of greeting from the Governor of the Province by Corinna Scharzenberger, Member of the National Council, the much-anticipated and longed-for highlight followed for many: the first blessing, the first blessing of the new priest Fr Vincent. - Father Vinzenz will celebrate his home priesthood on 11 July at 10:30 a.m. in the collegiate church of Göß and his monastery priesthood on 25 July at 10:00 a.m. in Admont. - In the new working year, he will be sent to the St. Michael pastoral area from 1 September. - May God complete in Fr Vincent the good things he has begun in him."
