"A monastery without a library is like a fortress without an armoury." - This sentence sums up what books mean for monastic life: they are the spiritual armoury for the monks. Prayer, education, science and administration.
The history of the Admont Abbey Library reaches up to the Foundation of the monastery in 1074 back. Even the first monks from the mother monastery of St Peter in Salzburg brought valuable books with them. These were supplemented by important Book gifts of the monastery founder Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg.
The result is a collection that has grown over the centuries - today the Admont Library is one of the most important libraries in the world.
Discover the heritage of the centuries - in the Admont Abbey Library, a place of wisdom, history and inspiration.
