News from the museum (March/April)

Following the opening of the two exhibitions on Hannes Schwarz and Josef Pillhofer in the contemporary art section of the Admont Abbey Museum on 19 March 2026, the museum was already able to welcome special groups of visitors in the first few weeks after the opening.

Inclusion and new approaches to art

On 26 March, Admont was the venue for the „Roll over Admont“ event as part of the „Unheard 2.0“ project, which makes the realities of life for older and disabled women in the district visible.

Led by Susanne Wölger-Olivier and Friederike Zettelbauer, a tour with around 30 participants also took them through the museum at Admont Abbey. Key accessibility measures were presented. There was also particular interest in the newly designed exhibition area „Beyond seeing“, which opens up inclusive approaches to art and appeals to different forms of perception.

Workshop with Reingard Schwarz

A joint workshop with the Stiftsgymnasium Admont took place on 9 and 10 April. Under the guidance of Carolin Kirchmair (subject coordinator for art and design), pupils had already intensively studied the life and work of Hannes Schwarz and visited the „Verletzt“ exhibition before the official opening.

A particular highlight of the workshop was the encounter with Reingard Schwarz, the artist's daughter, who was a guest at the museum on two mornings. Directly in the exhibition, she explained key stages of her father's life to the 6th and 7th grade pupils and gave personal insights into his artistic career.

It was not only about the development of his work, but also about personal perspectives: What was it like to grow up with an artist for a father? What role did his family play in his life? These questions gave the young people very direct access to Hannes Schwarz as a person.

Following the visit to the exhibition, the pupils continued their practical work in the secondary school's drawing room. They created their own works on prepared canvases, which dealt with the impressions from the exhibition and were inspired by Hannes Schwarz.

The resulting works were reflected on together with Reingard Schwarz. A presentation of the works is planned towards the end of the exhibition in Admont.
