Hemmas Sunday, parish and foundation staff party
On 29 June, the traditional Hemma Sunday, Admont Abbey not only commemorated Saint Hemma of Gurk, but also Peter and Paul. The annual parish and abbey staff festival was also celebrated. This special day was all about giving thanks - for the founder of the house as well as for all those who support Admont Abbey and the parish in its many areas with commitment, expertise and passion.
A particularly moving moment was the ceremonial farewell to Sister Friedburg, who retired after more than 50 years of conscientious service.

With great respect and heartfelt gratitude, Abbot Gerhard honoured the work of Sr Friedburg, whose quiet loyalty, reliability and dedication had shaped life in the house for many years. The thanks of the entire monastery went to her dedication, her faith and the human warmth that she gave to many people. The Parish and staff party offered space for encounters, discussions and socialising. It was a sign of recognition for the valuable work that is carried out every day in the foundation's businesses and areas - be it in pastoral care, education, administration, forestry, culture or in many other services.
From the abbot's sermon:
The abbot interprets the new choir chapel: the book stands for the Bible, the chalice for the celebration of the Eucharist, another book represents the Rule of St Benedict and the staff as a sign of being on the road in daily life (pilgrim's staff) and the heart for love of God and neighbour.
The day was characterised by community, joy and the awareness of being part of a living, shared mission.
