School Exhibition Opening

Hannes Schwarz is an inspiration.

Exhibition opening at the Admont Abbey Museum

The Admont Abbey Museum cordially invites you to the opening of an exhibition featuring works by pupils from Admont Abbey Grammar School on 4 November at 6.00 pm at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Musical accompaniment: Benjamin Mader-Bock.

As part of a school project, the pupils have been studying the life and work of the painter Hannes Schwarz in depth. This study has resulted in numerous original works on canvas, which are now on display in the exhibition.

We would like to extend our special thanks to Carolin Kirchmayr, who supervised the project on behalf of the school, and to Reingard Schwarz, the artist’s daughter, who facilitated the creative process over two days of workshops and shared valuable insights into her father’s life and work.

Hannes Schwarz (1926–2014) engaged deeply with social and existential issues, both in his artistic work and throughout his long career as a teacher. Shaped by his experiences of the Nazi dictatorship, he regarded art and education as essential foundations of an open, humane society underpinned by mutual respect.

The exhibition shows how Hannes Schwarz’s work continues to inspire young people today to explore fundamental questions about what it means to be human and to develop their own forms of artistic expression.

The pupils’ work will remain on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art until Thursday 5 November inclusive. This means that the exhibitions on Hannes Schwarz and Josef Pillhofer have been extended by a further two days.
