Sponsored Run - Benefit and Fun
Monday, 9 September 2019
Over 400 pupils and a number of teachers raised an impressive total of € 19,100 at the 3rd Sponsored Run.
This year's charity run of the Stiftsgymnasium Admont took place at the beginning of July. Pupils and teachers ran for a good cause - in sweltering heat. This was the third time that the Stiftsgymnasium had organised a charity run, in which laps of 360 metres had to be completed. More than 400 runners set off against the picturesque backdrop of the Gesäuse and Haller Walls. After the final lap together, which was accompanied by "The Final Countdown" by Europe, it was time to be proud and relax.
A successful supporting programme with music and tasty food put everyone in a good mood and made it easier to bear the heat. Fortunately, there was also a garden hose and the school's own pool to refresh oneself in the cool water after the strenuous run. Thirsty and hungry athletes enjoyed the sparkling Gesäuse-Perle and tasty Xeis, Enns- and Veggieburgers. Last but not least, it was the sense of community that kept the runners going.
And what was it all for? Sport is of course very important at Stiftsgymnasium Admont, but this day was all about increasing the amount raised. The more laps were run, the more money each pupil received from their own sponsor. The school's sponsor, Admont Abbey, also supported the charity run with a sum of €6,000, meaning that a remarkable total of €19,100 was donated. One half was handed over to the Children's Cancer Aid Graz, while the second half went to a social project run by the "Future for People on the Edge" association. In this project, a holiday village for Roma children is being built in Cluj-Napoca (Transylvania) to give children who spend their lives on the rubbish dump a happy time in a holiday village, at least for a short time.
