About the parish of Kalwang
The baroque parish church houses works by Admont sculptor Joseph Stammel, including the famous nativity scene. Popular meeting places are the library every Thursday afternoon, the monthly mother-child meetings and the baby meetings with a breastfeeding counsellor.
In 2008, the parish celebrated its 500th anniversary. Bishop Heinrich II of Chiemsee (1266 - 1274) laid the foundation stone for the church building. The consecration took place in 1286. After 1480, the defence wall around the church was reinforced and the defence tower, which is still preserved today, was built. After a fire, the church was rebuilt in the 16th century. Worth seeing is a late Gothic crucifix on the north wall of the nave.
The parish association comprises the parishes of Mautern, Kalwang, Kammern, Wald am Schoberpass and Traboch.
Patrocinium: St Oswald, 5 August
