Solemnity of St Hemma
On 27 June, the solemnity of Saint Hemma of Gurk was celebrated in Admont Abbey Church. St Hemma, who lived in the 11th century, is regarded as an important founder of numerous ecclesiastical institutions in Carinthia and Styria - including the Benedictine monastery of Admont. Her beneficial work is still alive today and has a significant influence on the spiritual identity of the monastery.
St Hemma was commemorated in a special way in a festive church service.

The connection between Carinthia, the home of St Hemma, and Admont is particularly tangible on this feast day.
Her example is both an inspiration and a mission - a call to active charity, to a faith-based life and to constant trust in God's guidance.
St Hemma - please for us!
