For centuries, human knowledge has been subject to constant updating through new discoveries, and yet today it seems more fragile and volatile than ever. The boundaries of its availability are being shattered, its validity questioned from one second to the next. Can the equation „knowledge = power“ still hold true here?
A visit to a library is like travelling back in time. Here, knowledge is given a physical form. Books serve to showcase education, wisdom and: power. The Admont Abbey Library symbolises this like no other place. It was established 250 years ago to showcase the abbey’s treasure trove of knowledge and, with it, its (intellectual) wealth.
Anyone who steps inside feels the quest for enlightenment, yet is also transported back to a time when access to knowledge was a privilege dependent on status, background and gender.
