A fascinating rotel of the Admont monastery

This Rotel is more than just a parchment scroll - it tells stories from history! The parchment, which is almost 3 metres long in total, is wrapped around a wooden stick and shows the image of St. Francis of Assisi at the beginning. …Bishop Blasius, the patron saint of Admont Abbey, as well as the abbey coat of arms and the coat of arms of the reigning abbot Andreas Stettheimer.

These include requests for prayers for named monks and nuns of Admont. The Rotel messenger had the important task of travelling from monastery to monastery to announce news of deaths and ask for prayers. Confirmations of the messenger's presence are noted along the entire length of the Rotel. The Rotel can be seen in the special exhibition. You have the opportunity to see this remarkable exhibit up close until 2 November.
