Successful speciality market with history, heart and future

Experience regionality - art, crafts and enjoyment at Admont Abbey

The new speciality market at Admont Abbey was held for the first time in 2025 under the banner of regionality, art, craftsmanship and genuine quality - a format that quickly became a great success with the public.

Every first Saturday from April to September, the abbey grounds became a meeting place for connoisseurs, families, culture vultures and fans of regional products. Numerous visitors took the opportunity to stroll, savour and discover in the special atmosphere of the abbey.

The speciality market is a cooperative project of the Benedictine Abbey Admont and the Stiftskeller Admont - united in the common mission to make regionality, craftsmanship and culinary quality visible and tangible in the heart of the Gesäuse.

The Benedictine Abbey of Admont, which has stood for regionality, sustainability, education and cultural heritage for over 950 years, and Ulrich Matlschweiger from Stiftskeller Admont, which also embodies the values of regionality, are sending a strong signal for cohesion, quality and regional diversity with the new speciality market.

"We are delighted that this year's speciality market has got off to such a good start. Here at Admont Abbey, we offer numerous producers a great opportunity to present their products - and subsequently our region," explains Mario Brandmüller, Head of Culture, Tourism and PR at Admont Benedictine Abbey.

In addition to high-quality food from the region, artisan businesses and artists also presented themselves, demonstrating the diversity and creativity of the Gesäuse region with a great deal of passion and skill. Many of the guests combined their visit to the market with a tour of the world-famous abbey library and museums - which not only enriched the cultural experience, but also provided the exhibitors with an ideal platform to present their products to a broad, interested audience.

"I am delighted that the market has developed better every month. We will continue the project next year - but I hope that we will be able to convince even more regional producers of the new format in 2026," says Ulrich Matlschweiger, host at Stiftskeller Admont.

A special highlight was the market in August: Radio Grün Weiß provided the best atmosphere and musical accompaniment with the popular "Wunschradio" live from Admont Abbey.

There was also plenty on offer for families: Face painting, a bouncy castle and creative activities in the museum workshop made the speciality market a real experience for all generations.

Additional date in October: Speciality market & wine festival for Thanksgiving

The successful market year 2025 is not over yet: On Sunday, 12 October (from 09:30), another speciality market will take place as part of the Harvest Festival at Admont Abbey - accompanied by an atmospheric wine festival in an autumnal atmosphere.

We cordially invite everyone to experience this special day and once again savour the culinary and artisanal diversity of the region.
