Red Wednesday 2025
We remember the persecuted Christians all over the world.
Red Wednesday is a day of remembrance and action by the Catholic Church and various Christian organisations, which is celebrated annually in November. The aim of this day is to draw attention to the worldwide violation of religious freedom and in particular to remember people who are discriminated against, persecuted or killed because of their faith.
Red Wednesday is characterised by the red illumination of numerous churches, cathedrals, monasteries, public buildings and landmarks. The colour red is symbolic of the blood of the martyrs and of all those who suffer because of their faith. The visual presence is intended to be a strong public symbol that raises awareness of the often invisible fates of religiously persecuted people.
