Spirituality
Benedictine spirituality is based on the Rule of our Holy Father Benedictus. Fundamental to the spirituality of the Rule is the primacy of God and the longing to seek God in prayer and human community. The centre of Benedictine spirituality is the person and the Good News - the Gospel - of Jesus Christ. Benedictine spirituality says that all creation is good and deserves respect and care. Very simply put, it is a spirituality of a holistic way of life, lived in community according to the Rule and under a superior.
At the centre of this way of life is the cultivation of a listening heart. The Benedictine cultivates this listening heart by listening and responding to God's word in the spiritual reading of Scripture (lectio divina), in the common daily prayer of the psalms, in the celebration of the sacraments and in experiences in life. Benedictine spirituality bears fruit in the service of the Church and the world, promoting justice and peace wherever it is needed.
