With passion, responsibility and regional cohesion through a challenging winter
The small, fine Kaiserau ski area, in the centre of Admont and the Paltental valley, is exemplary for many winter sports destinations in the Alpine region: low temperatures for technical snowmaking, hardly any natural snow and the comparatively low altitude present the operators with enormous challenges year after year. And yet it has been possible to maintain skiing operations - especially for children and families.
Thanks to a great deal of commitment, the winter season was able to start on schedule in December despite the massive lack of natural snow. This was only possible thanks to high investments, numerous preparatory works and the tireless efforts of everyone involved. The ski area is owned by Admont Abbey, which is clearly and unanimously behind the Kaiserau despite these difficult conditions. This is a strong sign of regional responsibility and the importance of the ski area for tourism, local recreation and regional development.
Climate change is „not exactly playing into the hands of the ski industry“, as Managing Director Mario Brandmüller emphasises: „Kaiserau is a ski resort at a lower altitude - that doesn't make it any easier. But we can see that many large and high-altitude winter destinations are also struggling massively. This makes it all the more important that we work together to find solutions and focus on what we can offer: an affordable, clearly laid out and family-friendly ski area.“
Brandmüller expressly thanks Admont Abbey for its full support as well as all partners and employees: „Without this backing and without the many new investments and works, this infrastructure would no longer be possible.“
Above all Operations manager Andreas Ysopp does an outstanding job and makes a significant contribution to ensuring that ski operations run smoothly even under difficult conditions.
Another indispensable building block for success is the Gesäuse Ski School. Many thanks to Werner and Patrick Brugger and the entire ski school team, who have been teaching countless children and guests how to ski with patience, expertise and enthusiasm for years, thus making a decisive contribution to the development of young talent and the attractiveness of the ski area.
The Municipality of Admont is clearly behind the ski resort. Mayor Christian Haider emphasises the social significance: „Sport, exercise and skiing in particular are an important part of our children's education. Kaiserau makes it possible for children from the community and the entire region to learn winter sports right on our doorstep.“
For this reason, the municipality contributes over 60,000 euros annually to ensure the continued existence of the ski resort. Similar arguments Fabian Gierer, local councillor and sports committee chairman of the municipality of Admont: „Kaiserau is the number one ski area in the region for children and families. The clear layout of the area, the safety and the affordability make it unique.“
Finally, we would like to thank all the associations in the region, which make a valuable contribution to children, families and residents of the entire region with their numerous initiatives, events and voluntary work. They all contribute to making the Kaiserau much more than just a ski resort - namely a place of encounter, exercise and regional identity.
The Kaiserau impressively demonstrates that it is not always size or metres in altitude that count - but cohesion, commitment and the common will to maintain an offer for future generations even under difficult conditions.
