Experience regionality - enjoy quality
Following last year's successful launch, the Gesäuse Speciality Market 2026 is entering its second round. As the successor to the traditional monastery market days, the new format was launched by Admont Abbey in cooperation with the Stiftskeller - with a clear focus: the products on offer come exclusively from the Gesäuse region.
From 2 May 2026, it will once again be the first Saturday of every month: Experience regionality - enjoy quality! The market will bring the culinary treasures of the region directly to the market square and allow visitors to experience them in one place.
Regional diversity in one place
From award-winning apple wines and Xeis noble game to beer bread and marzizoni: in addition to the impressive nature of the Gesäuse National Park and the cultural heritage of the Benedictine Abbey of Admont, the region also impresses with its culinary delights. The Gesäuse speciality market creates a special added value: „If you want to shop regionally, you no longer have to travel from one producer to the next - at the market you can find the entire diversity of the region in one place.“, explains Mario Brandmüller, Head of Culture, Tourism and PR at Admont Abbey.
Strengthening domestic producers
The new format is a deliberate move towards sustainability. In contrast to the former monastery market days, the focus is now specifically on the direct marketing of regional businesses.
„With the Gesäuse speciality market, we are creating the first opportunity to support exclusively local producers and make their products visible“, says Brandmüller.
Also Ulrich Matlschweiger from the Stiftskeller emphasises the importance of the project: „Gesäuse specialities are thus gaining in popularity - both regionally and nationally.“
In addition to enjoyment, the focus is on the sustainable development of the region. Short transport routes, conscious consumption and the promotion of traditional craftsmanship are key concerns of the market.
„We can only create a sustainable future if awareness of local food grows.“, emphasises Matlschweiger. „In this way, we are actively contributing to the preservation of our cultural landscape and the safeguarding of high-quality food production.“
